What can you do?

Have you experienced undesirable behavior yourself?

  • Take your feelings seriously and find support from someone you trust.
  • Talk to the person concerned and discuss what is bothering you.
  • If this doesn’t help or doesn’t feel right, contact your manager.
  • If you prefer not to do this for whatever reason, feel free to contact one of the counselors.

Did you see something happen?

  • Discuss what it is you saw with the victim.
  • Ask if they are alright and offer your help.
  • If you didn’t say anything about it when it happened, do so afterward. Discuss it.
  • Are you unsure how best to do this, do you find it difficult, or does the person concerned prefer not to discuss it? Then ask your manager for help.
  • If this is impossible or if would you rather not do this, you can contact one of the counselors.

What can help you?

Have you experienced undesirable behavior yourself?

  • You can use the rules for giving feedback to give and receive feedback.
  • Write down for yourself what happened and what this does to you. If necessary, ask support from a friend or colleague.
  • Save any emails, text messages, apps or actual events so that you can give clear examples.

Did you see something happen?

  • Discuss what you have seen in a room where other people cannot overhear.
  • Try to describe objectively and accurately what you saw happen and what it did to you.
  • Listen to how the other person experienced it and dig deeper.
  • Ask help from a manager or a trusted colleague if you cannot or are afraid to do this alone.

Who can help you?

Ask support from someone you trust. If it doesn’t feel right to discuss something with your manager, or if it doesn’t help, you can always contact the counselors of UMC Utrecht. Even if you are in doubt. It can keep a situation from getting worse. All conversations between staff members and these helplines are confidential.
