Here you will find practical information that can help you\u2014whether you\u2019re experiencing such behavior yourself, someone comes to you with a problem, or you are being addressed about your own behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is this information for?<\/strong>
For all professionals in training at the UMC Utrecht Academy who experience inappropriate behavior during theoretical education.
Note:<\/em> If <\/strong>inappropriatebehavior is experienced during practical education, you can best seek support within your own healthcare organization. If you have any questions about this, you can contact the confidential contact person (see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is <\/strong>inappropriate behavior?<\/strong><\/strong>
Inappropriate behavior includes anything people experience in communication or interaction as unpleasant, unwanted, or hurtful, which may result in someone no longer feeling safe or comfortable at work or in training. This can occur physically, (non-)verbally, or even online.
It is your personal experience that matters\u2014not the prevailing norm or what others might think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inappropriate behavior can take many forms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verbal <\/strong>– Someone makes unpleasant remarks, talks behind your back, gives you unwanted nicknames, or frequently insults you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actions<\/strong> – Someone stares at you, excludes you, or deliberately ignores you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical<\/strong> – Someone behaves aggressively, puts an arm around your shoulder without your consent, or touches you in an unwanted way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media<\/strong> – Someone sends you sexually suggestive messages or insults you online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this information?<\/strong> <\/strong> 
Undesirable behavior can happen to anyone. Working and learning together means being jointly responsible for a safe and respectful atmosphere. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important for everyone to engage in open discussions about behavior and know where to find practical information and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking makes a difference<\/strong><\/strong>
As a professional in training, your first point of contact can be your (senior) trainer.
If, for any reason, that does not feel right of comfortable, you can reach out to the confidential contact person of the Academy. This person offers a listening ear and refers you to the appropriate support if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may also contact the confidential advisor for inappropriate behavior at UMC Utrecht directly. Conversations with either the contact person or the confidential advisor are always confidential, and you remain in control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
