For managers, lecturers and supervisors
UMC Utrecht should be a pleasant and safe place for everyone, but research indicates that not everyone experiences it that way. Mental health and job satisfaction are crucial for personal development and work performance. As a supervisor, teacher, or mentor within the UMC Utrecht, you have the responsibility and an exemplary role to ensure a socially safe, open, and positive work and learning environment.
What does this mean for you as a leader, teacher or mentor with an exemplary role?
You are very influential: when you set a good example, you inspire others to do the same. Moreover, you are often the first point of contact, and your openness, awareness of situations, and attention are important for the people you work with.
Through This is us, the following can happen:
- People may come to you with questions about unwanted behavior, signals, or unpleasant experiences.
- You may witness unwanted behavior or experience it yourself and seek guidance.
- There may be a need to discuss (un)desired behavior within your department, team, with students, or with fellow teachers.
- You may want to initiate a conversation about unwanted behavior to increase your knowledge.
To help you, we’ve made a Quick Reference Card with tips on starting a conversation about this.
